The programme has been designed to fit the requirements of the developing work and academic environment and to provide graduates with solid competences that will make them competitive in the job market. The programme English Studies – Linguistics comprises many disciplines, such as sociology, pedagogy, psychology and communication studies. Modern linguistics researches, among others: the relationship between language and the human brain, diversity of language varieties, the role of language in artificial intelligence systems, communication in traditional and modern media, language change, or translation of texts of many types.

 

 

At the start, students select their MA seminar from the available offer. In addition to the MA thesis related classes, students have the opportunity to take courses and monographic lectures in other disciplines, i.e. literature and culture studies.

 

 

Students broaden their knowledge of problems within linguistics, such as social and regional varieties of language, multilingualism, communication in a variety of contexts, issues involved in translation, corpus and computational linguistics, language modeling for AI, and others. The diploma they receive upon graduation explicitly states that they are specialists in linguistics. Students also have a chance to get introduced to substantial fundamentals of translation practice, including the translation of literature and of language for specific purposes, and are equipped with soft skills in order to facilitate their successful performance in the job market.
